Event Wrap Up9th October 2013
The Coastal Classic returned to the Royal National Park in 2013 for the 4th year with yet another sold out event. The popularity of this stunning run along beaches, cliff tops and bush land just keeps growing.
With some big name runners lining up racing for line honors, anticipation of a broken race record was a reality. Thomas Do Canto, first time Coastal Classic runner, smashed 3 minutes off the record coming in at 2:14:57. Jo Brischetto lead the women in with a fast time of 2:52:43 narrowly missing out on the female record.
Overall feedback from runners was fantastic with many being taken by surprise at how hard a run the Coastal Classic really is with such varied terrain. Packed in to the tough 29km course are a number of beach runs and some significant climbs. The higher than normal spring temperatures didn’t make it any easier but certainly made the post race swim at the beach enjoyable.
